S.A.Y. Yes! is a weekly mentoring program for children and youth. Every Tuesday afternoon from 3:15 – 6:00, elementary school aged children meet with their mentors at Discovery Hills for a healthy snack, help with homework, tutoring, Bible stories, games and life skills training. Through the S.A.Y. Yes! program, we strive to meet emotional, spiritual and academic needs of children. For more information on volunteering as an adult or youth mentor, contact Lauren Prichard at home at (530) 672-7447 or call the church office.
Moms In Touch is a weekly prayer group for maternal care providers with children attending Buckeye Elementary School. We meet for an hour on Friday mornings to pray for the students, teachers and staff of Buckeye School.
Big Brothers, Big Sisters is another way in which our church family is able to be actively involved in caring for the children at Buckeye Elementary School and other schools in the community. We have several members of our church family who spend approximately an hour each week with a child during the school day.
The Homework Club is an on-site after-school drop-in program for children living at a local apartment complex. The goal of this program is to provide a safe place for youth to spend time after school. Homework assistance is available, including access to a computer and the internet.
As-Needed Community Service is an ongoing priority at Discovery Hills. Our members joyfully share their gifts in helping people in our communities with:
- Home and Auto Repairs
- Moving
- Groceries and Meals
- Housing
- Other Materials and Services to Meet
Specific Needs
"Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."
----James 2:15-17
What is Community Outreach?
At Discovery Hills, we are committed to knowing Christ and making him known. And we understand that we are called to spread the Gospel to every corner of the world. We also understand that some of those corners lie right here in our communities, our workplaces, our schools and our homes. We know that energized, spirit-lead Christians who are seeking to identify needs and then to meet them, can truly make a difference in the lives of other people and, in doing so, reach them for Christ.
We invite you to join us. If you know of a need that we might be able to meet, or if you just want to get involved in serving Christ by serving others, stop by or give the church office a call and get connected!
